With all this buzz and crap being tossed around what Kanye West did at the VMA’s to poor little Taylor Swift, I feel like talking about it a little.

Is that all that most people can talk about and think of?
I know I’m in no place to be dissing anyone or anything, but I am going to voice an opinion.

Namely, that;
Most of my peers are shallow and only concerned with trivial matters. The pointless.
The superficial.
Shit that doesn’t have much of a point in the long run, IMO.

Now, this is clearly just an opinion, but…

I dunno.

Gets kind of tiring if the majority of people your age just blather on about gossip and other people and shit like that.

What would I prefer? I dunno.

Stuff that makes you think, for one?
I know a few people who fit this bill-almost no girls.

to be dreadfully honest, i sometimes wish i could find an extremely intellectual girl who’s strange habituality isn’t the kind most intellectual females i know posses.
I have the right to a pipe dream anyway.

Where was I?
Oh yeah.

Wishful thinking. Haha.

Sometimes I wonder how most teenagers can be content with just “…oh, so and so broke up with so and so, and _ is with _ now, and did you know i.e. is such a fucker, or, I don’t think she looks good with him…”

I could go on, but this is just my frustration with this sort of pattern manifesting itself.

Why does that shit matter so much?
Not like their lives are going to be oh so integral to yours, are they?

But hey.

Whatever.

On occasion, I talk about other people-but they’re not the end-all of my existence.
I don’t live on the lives and happenings of others.

Why the fuck else would I have my own existence to worry about?
Do you think I tread this life to think and monger off gossip and hear-say?

Fuck no.

I live to enjoy. I live to go where I want to. I live to be happy that I am alive.

Not because I like all the news and shallow talk regarding people I may or may not know.

I mean, how many people do I know stop to say “you know, Fahrenheit 451′s a pretty good read.”
Uh.
Not very many, that’s for fucking sure.

Or “have you ever sat down and deconstructed religion to further understand it? to see it from various points of view?”
Maybe even “don’t you think society has a tendency to worry too much about money and image? i don’t like how dumbed-down and mundane the majority of humanity sees life and such.”

There aren’t a lot of people who ever ask these questions, as far as I know-particularly at my age, but I am hoping I am wrong.
Somehow.

Yeah, all those questions are definitely from my heart, but don’t you wish people could think like that more often?

Be more open?
Be more perceptive?
Anything?

No?

What else.
Hmm.

Why is it that all that matters as far as college courses go are those that involve business?
Why can’t people just say “take what you really want to take?”
For example.
If I were dating a girl, and there was another guy dating the said girl.
Let’s say I’m in college, and taking either Creative Writing, Comparative Literature, or Philosophy, whilst other guy is taking… Management, or Accountancy, or anything else that could probably pay well.
Based on this alone, the girl’s parents would probably dig other guy more than me.

Why?

Because that’s the majority of society.

Literature and such has gone through a downgrade, what with all the cliché-heavy period pieces and worthless prints of books that mean close to nil in the long run…
Now, I have no solid basis for these statements, and for sure there are still a good many folks who like to read and think and live in ways that I agree with.

But the masses?

Nope.

Sometimes I feel like Bradbury might have been on to something when he wrote Fahrenheit 451.
I dunno.
If you compare the days of old, where being well-read and scholarly and so on were enough to promise you loads of recognition and such, compared to now… I dunno.
Philosophers like Plato and his contemporaries count as that.
Nowadays, it feels like there’s this sub-society that pays attention to the modern-day versions of people like this.
The rest of the world could care less.

Maybe.

I’m not omniscient.

One last thing:
In the days of old, it was widely accepted that mythology was the truth.
Be it the Greeks, or the Vikings, or whoever… People once believed in these myths.

What if, one day, as mankind progresses, this same thing happens to the religions of now?
If they get degraded to a “Oh look, our ancestors were so funny! Trying to explain things or make life easier through something to place faith in… Us folks of the future sure love enlightenment!”
I’m not saying it’s going to come to this, nor am I calling any modern religion false.

I’m either being sceptical/cynical, or asking myself a “what if?” question.
i sure dig those “what if?” questions.
Maybe both.

I mean.
Really.
What if?

I think I’ll close here.

  1. Like, like, and like.

I’ve lots of things to say, but I’m lazy. :P Next time nalang. :) )

I say yes to Ray Bradbury!

  2. Wow that was really long.

Honestly, you have to admit that a looot of people aren’t as smart as you are and over half the teenage population of general society is either dumb or extremely shallow.

I guess all we do now is tolerate that stupidity and change on our own.

Can’t help the bobo people. :D

  3. I’d like to discuss with you, Janica. :P

Zo, don’t generalize to that extent. :|

  4. Can I just say I am so damn disappointed with Obama riding along with this Kanye West thing. o_o

  5. Not that I am mean (well, yes, I am mean. HAHA. XP), but there’s a certain distress in having to deal with stupid people.

It’s not so much that they’re bobo. In fact, I can argue there’s no such thing as bobo. A lot of people, even the “intelligent,” straight-A students, can be really superficial and yes, stupid.

The problem I guess is, the norms find all these cute. (And the interesting ones, taboo. :P )

  6. Not so much bobo… More like ignorant. :|
